At Stevenson Orthodontics we pride ourselves on using state-of-the-art technology and cutting-edge techniques. There's a new technology that is (literally) putting a smile on plenty of young faces: A system of clear, removable aligners made especially for teens called Invisalign Teen®! If you (or a teenager you know) are a candidate for this treatment, you might find it's the best fit for your lifestyle: It lets you eat what you want, makes it easier to clean your teeth — and best of all, it's virtually invisible.
What Is Invisalign Teen?Invisalign Teen is a discrete way to straighten your teeth without conventional braces. The system involves a series of clear, removable, and customized trays. We know that many teens do not want to worry about embarrassing metal braces for several years. We also know it can be hard to get a teenager to follow an orthodontic treatment plan. Invisalign Teen aligners have compliance indicators that change in color from blue to clear with the proper use. This allows us to ensure you are using your trays. If you neglect to wear your trays, you may render your treatment ineffective.
Who Qualifies for Invisalign Teen?Is a clear aligner right for you? It all depends on what kind of orthodontic treatment you need. Traditional metal braces still work best in some situations — and you might be surprised to find that they're still a popular option for many teenagers! However, now that aligners are being designed specifically for teens, more are choosing them every day. In fact, many orthodontic conditions, which, in the past, were usually treated with traditional braces, can now be treated with Invisalign Teen!
Invisalign can be used to treat a broad range of dental and orthodontic issues, some of which include:
How Does Invisalign Teen Work?Once we have determined you are a suitable candidate for Invisalign Teen, we can begin with the treatment process. The first step is to create a comprehensive record of your teeth and gums. This record will be sent to the technicians at Invisalign, where they will use the information to fabricate your series of trays.
For the next six to 15 months, you will wear each set of aligners at two-week intervals. The tray should only be removed to eat, drink, and brush and floss your teeth. At the end of the two weeks, your teeth should match the position of your tray. During your treatment, you should schedule appointments roughly every six weeks so we can monitor your progress. At the end of treatment, your teeth should be in the correct position! In some cases, a few teeth may still be slightly out of position. If this is the case, we may fabricate a second series of trays to refine your smile. Once all your teeth are in the correct position, we strongly recommend the use of a retainer. Over time your teeth may drift back out of position. A retainer can help you protect your investment and keep your smile straight and beautiful!
