At Stevenson Orthodontics, we offer several alternatives to traditional braces. One of these alternatives, Invisalign, has become increasingly popular with patients over the last 20 years. Invisalign is an orthodontic system that utilizes clear, plastic aligner trays that gradually rotate or move your teeth into the proper positions. The Invisalign process is simple, effective, and includes some benefits over traditional braces.
Invisalign Treatment ProcessThe first step is a consultation appointment. During your consultation, Dr. Perry Stevenson will determine whether or not you are a suitable candidate for Invisalign treatment. Invisalign can be an effective treatment for many issues; however, there are certain situations where another method of treatment is more appropriate.
Once we have determined that Invisalign is right for you, we will create a record of your current smile. This record will include, x-rays, photographs, and 3D impressions of your teeth and gums. This information will then be sent to the Invisalign headquarters, along with a detailed set of instructions on how we want to move your teeth.
Invisalign uses this information to fabricate a series of aligner trays that meet your treatment needs. This process typically takes about four weeks to complete. Once we receive your trays, we can begin treatment.
You will need to wear each aligner tray at two-week intervals. Each tray is designed to move your teeth to a slightly straighter position. The tray will put pressure on the teeth until they eventually move to match the tray. You will have to wear each tray close to 24 hours a day. They should only be taken out to eat, drink, or clean your teeth. If you neglect to wear your trays, you will not see progress with your treatment.
By the end of treatment, you may still have a few teeth that are slightly out of position. In this case, we may fabricate new trays to refine your results. After we are satisfied with the position of your teeth, it is time to protect your investment. We recommend a retainer (similar to your aligner trays) to keep your teeth in their proper positions. Over time, you will be able to wear your retainer less and less.
