Facial pain can be very debilitating as either an acute or chronic condition. Tension and/or migraine headaches can be the result of muscular facial pain. Painful and tender facial muscles can also be caused by jaw clenching or grinding of the teeth called bruxism. Another condition of facial pain can be associated with TMD or temporomandibular dysfuntion.
Injections of therapeutic botulinum toxin A (Botox) can help relax the facial muscles and give three to four months of pain relief from the muscles and headaches. It can also help reduce the amount of clenching and grinding.
